Some projects demand attention.
Others ask for restraint.
HOUSE IN THE VINEYARD belongs firmly to the latter.
Located in Napa Valley, the project sits within an active agricultural landscape defined by seasonal rhythms, long horizons, and deliberate calm. From the outset, the primary question was simple: How can a home exist here without interrupting what already works?
Designing with the land, not on it
The site is shaped by rows of grapevines that impose a clear spatial logic—linear, repetitive, and grounded. Rather than breaking this order, the house adopts it.
The building stretches low across the terrain, aligning with the vineyard rows and minimizing vertical presence. From a distance, the architecture recedes, allowing the landscape to remain dominant.
This decision was not aesthetic—it was ethical.
A house that follows seasons
Life in a vineyard is defined by time. Harvests, growth cycles, light shifts, and climate patterns shape daily activity. The house responds accordingly.
Living spaces open toward the morning light. Private areas retreat during the hotter hours. Deep overhangs and recessed glazing reduce heat gain while maintaining visual openness.
As seasons change, so does the experience of the house.
Material continuity
Materials were selected to echo the tones and textures of the surrounding land. Stone, timber, and muted plaster form a palette that feels quiet and familiar.
Nothing is polished to perfection. Surfaces are allowed to weather, fade, and age alongside the vineyard itself. The house is not designed to remain untouched—it is designed to belong.
Blurring boundaries
Interior and exterior spaces flow into one another through terraces, courtyards, and long horizontal openings. Boundaries are softened rather than erased, allowing the landscape to remain present even indoors.
At no point does the architecture attempt to frame the vineyard as a view alone. Instead, it becomes part of everyday movement and ritual.
Looking ahead
Construction for HOUSE IN THE VINEYARD is scheduled to begin in early 2025. As the project moves forward, our focus remains unchanged: restraint, clarity, and respect for place.
Some architecture announces itself immediately.
This house reveals itself slowly—over time, light, and seasons.
